Emerging Companies Fund

The Commencer Capital Emerging Companies Fund has c.$75m of committed capital having recently completed a final capital raising. The Fund’s investment strategy is to invest in early stage, high growth businesses which are seeking capital to continue to grow and expand their businesses. The Fund typically invests $1-5 million initially per investment, and has been an active participant in follow-on rounds. The average investment size to date in the Fund is c.$5.0m million across 10 portfolio companies.

The Fund is sector and geography agnostic, however it will primarily focus on opportunities which are supporting Australian entrepreneurs, supporting Australian innovation or supporting businesses with global relevance.

Target attributes of investee companies


The Fund focusses on investing in equity and/or equity-like investments in early stage companies, which may have some of the following target attributes:

  • target Enterprise Value of approximately $10 million to $50 million;

  • high growth potential and in the earlier stages of their growth lifecycle;

  • sustainable competitive advantage in an attractive market;

  • proven revenue and business model;

  • international expansion potential; and

  • strong founder influence and strategic alignment

Specific attributes of investee companies


Specific attributes of investee entities which the Manager may look for include (but are not limited to) some of the following:

  • automation technology solutions which disrupt or replace existing technologies

  • platform and marketplace businesses

  • disruptive technology in financial services, artificial intelligence, consumer and industrial sectors;

  • innovative businesses which provide the essential complementary services or tools to facilitate and support a fast growing, new economy growth sector; and

  • information, telecommunications, software and hardware technology
